Event Design & Management: Beacon 50

The largest event I created and led—hands down—was Beacon 50 in 2009. The goal was to mark the 50th anniversary of the official opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway, while simultaneously celebrating and promoting the Township of South Stormont.

Partnering with the Township, my committee developed a six-day event, with each day marking a different aspect of township life: Business, Tourism, Arts, Agriculture, History and Youth. The large events we put into a framework designed to invite and facilitate participation from smaller interest groups across South Stormont. Beacon 50 was a tremendous success, with spinoff partnerships and independent events that continue today. The Township called Beacon 50 “the biggest thing to happen here since the Seaway itself.
